First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Great River Energy.
Data Analyst
I went through two interviews. They asked general questions about power systems, and also some technical stuff. It was all done remotely and was pretty fast from the interviews to hearing back about the offer.
- Could you explain what Power Factor is and its connection to power generation?
Engineer
Had a quick chat with HR about my resume. Then, I met with the hiring manager and HR person in person. They asked usual stuff like what are your strengths, weaknesses, a time you did something, and how you'd deal with a situation. Also asked about my college classes and internships. The whole thing was pretty standard and what I expected. It was professional and they let me ask questions about the company and the job.
- What do you consider your greatest strengths?
- Can you share an instance from your past?
- Describe how you would manage a particular scenario.
System Operator Trainee
The interview process began with a recruiter phone screen. This was followed by an extensive in-person interview with multiple members of the department. The discussion centered on understanding the role, how I would handle challenging situations, and general behavioral questions. It ended with ample time for me to ask questions, and they even gave a tour of the facilities. Everyone at Great River was really helpful and answered all my questions.
- Can you explain what VT, CT, and SCADA are?
Intern
Had an easy phone interview and then an onsite interview with the staffing company. The interview at Great River Energy was a bit nerve-wracking initially because there were about 3-4 people interviewing me in the room. But the questions they asked were just basic behavioral interview questions.
- Are you someone who focuses on the big picture or are you more detail-oriented?
