The interview process was very professional and they took time to explain everything and answer all my questions. I felt comfortable talking about myself and answering questions. I didn't get the job and wasn't notified until I checked that my application was closed out. I wish I had been notified, but other than that the whole process went well.

I applied for a creative producer position, but they thought I'd be a good fit for multimedia journalist instead, even though I didn't study journalism. I spoke with the news director and the weather anchor, and they were both pretty rude. The weather guy was unprofessional over the phone, and the news director ghosted me after suggesting a three-way meeting. It felt really shady and wasn't a good experience.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

It started with me sending in my application online. About four days later, the Hiring Manager called and we chatted for almost an hour. Then I was invited to come down to the station and meet the team. They asked me to bring at least three references, so I brought four. I met with most of the team, and my final interview was with the General Sales Manager. He asked for my references, I gave him my list, and we spoke for about fifteen minutes. He said he would sit down with everyone and might send an offer by the end of the week if I got selected. A week later, I emailed the hiring manager and didn't hear back for another two weeks. Then I got a very brief email saying someone else with 10 years more experience got the job. But then about a week after that, a reference of mine who owns a local store called me. They said the station had used my name and contact info and acted like I referred them to sell their services to my reference. Two days later, another reference called and told me the same thing. All my references were cold-called and my name was used to try and sell to them. Super unprofessional!

Behavioral Technical Other

I interviewed with the incoming news director for the Local News Live national newscast out of DC. After two interviews with him, a writing test, and then a final interview with his GM, and then he asked for my references. Never in my nearly decade of professional experience have I had a job ask for my references and then not provide me with a job offer. However after the reference interview I was then ghosted. No explanation. No response to three follow up emails. Both my references assured me they provided nothing but praise about my work ethic. I have used both these references reliably for over 5-years, so I know it wasn’t my references that caused this. It’s been over a month since I had my first interview and writing test and I can honestly say it’s disturbing how blatantly they wasted my time. First off, the writing test provided was ridiculously long, even though it was simple. Most of the exercises were repeated multiple times, yet given different titles. I would avoid this employer. I have over 8-years experience in broadcast journalism and if that’s how their news director treats me I can only imagine how they treat newer professionals.
