First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Grata.
Machine Learning Engineer
I'm checking out previous interviews. The rejection rate seems high, so I got the vibe that passing the online assessment doesn't guarantee an offer. They seem to know who they're looking for. I got to the third round. First, a recruiter call. Then, an online assessment from the recruiter. The third round was a 45-minute online meeting with the hiring manager. Honestly, days later, I still don't quite grasp what the company does. If you interview here, definitely ask them to clarify their business.
- Could you share some information about yourself?
Data Operations Lead
I applied online and a recruiter reached out to schedule a call to go over my background and the role. The recruiter was great and got me really stoked about the job. Next, I was supposed to talk to the hiring manager. When the call started, the hiring manager laid out an agenda and asked if I had any questions. We began the interview, and she immediately went off the agenda she proposed, which was fine by me. However, instead of asking one question and letting me answer, she'd ask a question and then pile on about 10 more, making it super hard to keep up. She rushed through all her questions really fast and seemed totally distracted. Every time I talked, her eyes would flick between her computer and me. It was super clear she wasn't into the interview. She didn't even talk about the role or the company until the last 5 minutes when I asked some final questions. Honestly, I was really hyped to interview here, but I'm glad I saw the hiring manager's true colors before getting too deep into the process. Dodged a bullet for sure. I was about to ask the recruiter to pull my application because of the hiring manager's unprofessionalism, especially since she's in a high position, but then I got the email saying they were moving on with other candidates. One thing to note is they don't seem to know what they want or how to interview for this role properly. The questions they asked had no connection to the job description, and they even changed the job title and added way more years of experience to the requirements. Try to be more respectful of people's time and learn to conduct interviews better.
- Can you describe a project you've worked on, detailing the stakeholders, timeline, complexity, and the challenges you faced and conquered?
Engineer
The interview process was pretty straightforward and fast. The talent team was really responsive and made scheduling super easy. It sounds like they're working on some cool, innovative products. The developers I chatted with seemed really thoughtful and like they genuinely enjoy their jobs. I always knew what was coming next because the talent team kept me updated on the next steps. I've been through some really long interview processes before where it felt like my time wasn't valued, but that wasn't the case here. I ended up accepting an offer elsewhere that I couldn't turn down, but if I knew anyone who'd be a good fit for Grata, I'd definitely tell them to apply. It's rare these days to have such a no-BS interview and recruiting experience.
- Can we do some paired coding?
- Let's talk about system design.
- What's driving your job search?
Software Engineer
Started with a recruiter call, then a hiring manager chat where we discussed SQL. After that, there was a technical interview focused on coding, and then an onsite technical interview covering system design. Finally, a behavioral interview happened. The onsite interviews were a mess - interviewers were a no show so we had to do it over Zoom from their office. Luckily I had my laptop. The interviewers seemed uninterested, one even left during the interview. It was really disappointing because everyone I spoke to before the onsite was nice and seemed to get it. I didn't get the job and when I asked for feedback, it was super generic. It honestly felt like they'd already decided before the onsite and just wanted me to come in anyway. A really disappointing and humiliating experience.
