First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Grant Thornton UK.
Assistant Manager
The process kicked off with an initial screening call with a Senior Manager to check fit and go over the CV. Then, there was a technical case study interview with a Manager and Director, which included both technical questions and soft-skill questions. These soft-skill questions were mostly follow-ups, like if you'd advised X instead of Y, and the client said Z, how you'd plan and implement that change. The last step was a competency interview with two Directors who asked STARR questions and questions about why this specific company. The whole thing took exactly 4 weeks from applying to getting the offer, though it might have been quicker if not for a holiday.
- Why are you interested in GT?
- Can you tell me about a time you had a difficult conversation with a senior person, like a Partner?
Assistant Manager
I had an initial HR screening call where we went over my CV. They mentioned they were looking to double the size of their economic consulting team, which sounded ambitious. Next, I had a 1-hour technical task in Excel, and I had to write up my answers as a client briefing. After that, I was invited to a 45-minute technical interview where I was asked questions specific to the role and the task. I passed this and moved on to a 45-minute final interview with a director, where I was asked standard competency questions, like about teamwork. The whole thing took about 10 weeks. Two weeks after the final interview, I found out GT had decided to stop the recruitment campaign. It's disappointing this wasn't communicated earlier, considering the time and effort candidates put in. I was also told that if the role reopened, I'd have to reapply and go through all the rounds again.
- Can you share an instance where you had to provide difficult feedback?
- Describe a situation in which you had to deliver difficult feedback.
Assistant Manager
I went through 3 interview rounds for this role. The interviews were standard and predictable, with different team members assessing me in each round. The first interview was with a Director and lasted around 30 minutes. The second interview lasted for an hour and involved an Associate Director and a Manager. The final interview was with the Partner, who primarily spoke about his own experiences and didn't ask many questions.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What motivates your interest in this position?
- Could you elaborate on any gaps in your previous work history?
