Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Grant Thornton UK.
Advisory Associate
The whole interview process took about 5 weeks from the moment I sent in my online application. First, I had a video interview. About a week or two later, they called me back for a phone chat to go over some of the things I talked about in the video. After clearing those, I had to do some online competency tests. The next week, I was invited to an assessment centre. Honestly, this one was great because it really let us show what we could do all day. There were a bunch of different activities, testing various skills and with different numbers of people in each, like group activities and one-on-one interviews.

Business Consultant
The interview process was superficial and lacked substance, heavily relying on the hiring senior manager's personal 'values' rather than objective criteria. They seemed to prefer molding new hires to their own way of thinking, and individuals with prior experience were at a disadvantage. There was no robust process to compare candidates consistently. The hiring process lacked continuity, with frequent calls to accept the offer but long delays in providing information. A Senior Partner, however, was more thorough and ethical in their approach.
- Are you familiar with proposal writing?
Advisory Associate
First, there was an online application, and I had to answer some essay questions. If that went well, I had to complete online math and English exams, but they weren't too tough. Then, I had a 30-minute phone interview where they asked some tricky questions, like "How has the economic downturn affected Grant Thornton?" or "What differentiates Grant Thornton from the Top 4?". The last step was an assessment center day at their London office. They said they'd call within 24 hours after the assessment center if I was successful.

- Could you elaborate on the impact of the economic downturn on Grant Thornton?
