First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Grand Valley State University.
Marketing Manager
I had an interview with 4 other people. They each asked me a question. The questions were mainly about the job description and how I fit the job. It went well overall. I decided to accept the job position.
- Tell me about the GV pillars and how you embody them.
IT Business Analyst
I had about a 45-50 minute interview where they asked me a bunch of situational questions. Also, they wanted me to explain what a Business Analyst does, like their duties, skills, and main jobs.
- Tell me about a difficult project you worked on. What was your approach and what happened in the end?
- Describe a time you had to deal with stakeholders having different priorities. How did you manage that?
- Can you give an example of when you analyzed a big dataset to find important information? What did you use and what was the outcome?
Assistant Director
Had an initial zoom interview where they first said camera off then on, then an on campus group interview. The hiring committee had questionable practices, broke confidentiality by revealing other candidates, and it was a strange experience for an Assistant Director role.
- What are your career aspirations for the next 5 and 10 years?
- What makes you the ideal candidate for this position?
Graduate Assistant
I emailed the graduate coordinator, and he got back to me with some questions about my background and experiences in my field. He also inquired about my Design and Programming skills, which are needed for the job duties. After I answered, he explained the position, job description, and the offer. He then asked if I was interested. I reviewed everything and found the offer to be good. I said yes and got accepted.
- Can you tell me about your academic background, skills, and experiences relevant to this field?
- What are your proficiency levels in Design and Programming?
