First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Grail.
Operations Manager
So, the interview process had four parts. First, I had to send in a video where I talked about myself and why I'd be good for the job. After that, I had a brief chat with the hiring manager, which seemed to go okay. She laid out the rest of the plan: a talk with my potential manager and then a final sit-down with the CEO. But then, radio silence. I followed up after a week to see what was up, but heard nothing back. Eventually, I got a generic rejection email with no details. It's a bummer when companies make you jump through hoops and then can't even send a basic, professional rejection, let alone any helpful feedback. It’s frustrating, honestly.
- Please submit a short video introducing yourself, including your background, experience, and qualifications for this role.
Recruiting
Had an initial interview with the VP of TA, which went well. They immediately set up onsite interviews. The process was straightforward with good questions. I'm really enthusiastic about the company's mission. They were recently acquired by Illumina and their Galleri product has gone public. They plan to double the company size this year, making it an exciting period to join.
- Can you share an instance where you decided not to proceed with a good idea that was suggested and explain your reasoning?
- Describe a situation where you experienced a challenging relationship with either a recruiter or a sourcer.

We visited your college and conducted a written test that covered general aptitude, verbal ability, and a passage writing exercise on a given topic. There was also a behavioral assessment integrated into the written test. Following that, there was a guess estimation round where candidates had to estimate a given problem with logical justifications. After these initial stages, there were 2-3 rounds of interviews.
- Can you estimate how many microwave ovens are sold in India annually?

The interview started with a presentation task that I had 6 hours to complete, with suggestions to focus on formatting, content, and presentation skills. This was followed by a telephonic interview that consisted of a consulting case interview. I was given 3 guesstimates to answer within 60 minutes, and then there was a discussion for about half an hour.
