I applied and connected with the recruiter, and then interviewed with the head of the execution technology team. It took about a month from the recruiter's first reply to getting the offer. The recruiter was really responsive and seemed to want me to do well. If I hadn't followed up with the recruiter, I don't think I would have gotten the interview with the manager.

The recruiter mentioned that the interviewer's feedback was that I arrived 15 minutes early and offered to wait in the reception area. The interviewer had just finished a run and was in gym clothes. I suspect this made her uncomfortable, but being rejected for being punctual was new. I looked her up and found she lacked comparable experience to mine. I believe I was dismissed with a flimsy excuse because I was seen as a potential threat. The workplace seemed unprofessional and lacked diversity. Fortunately, I dodged a bullet as I found a better opportunity.

The first phone screen with the Director was casual and lasted about 30 minutes. Then, after confirming vaccination status with my cards and attestation form, I was invited for an onsite interview that ran from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. It consisted of 30-minute interviews with managers and developers. They asked about filtering/aggregating lambda parameters and garbage collection. They also asked me to reverse integers in an array using a binary sort algorithm. However, the CTO got involved and mentioned wanting someone strong in risk capital finance, which wasn't discussed at all during the interviews, making it feel like a bait and switch, especially after HR inquired about start dates and other ongoing processes. It seemed they were comfortable wasting my time without being upfront, which reflects poorly on the culture regardless of the offered salary. That was frustrating, but I realized I avoided a bad situation. I told the recruiter this when I received the news and continued my job search.

Confirmed questions5 questions
  • Binary sort algorithm questions were posed regarding the transposition of integers in reverse within an array.
  • The next question was about Lambda in regards to LINQ queries.
  • A SQL question: write a select statement that takes the top 5 average highest salaries by comparison.

It was a two-part interview. First, a phone call with a manager to gauge interests and discuss the role. They talked about the company, culture, and team responsibilities. Second, an interview with four team members, each for about 30 minutes. It started with the same manager, then a somewhat technical part with Big O and sorting algorithm questions. Then, general questions about languages used and preferences. The last part was with a developer, a more technical interview focused on my previously mentioned interests.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Could you explain two of your preferred basic sorting algorithms, detailing their time and space complexity, and then compare and contrast them?
