It was a quick process and everyone I spoke with was approachable, honest, and really helpful. I felt like they genuinely wanted to know me and were interested in the interview.

The whole thing took about a week. I had two initial interviews that went well and were pretty standard. Then I had a third interview with a higher manager. She was not nice and kept cutting me off when I tried to answer. It felt more like an argument than an interview. She even asked me some personal stuff. After that, I waited about two weeks to hear back, but nothing. I had to reach out to them, and that's when they told me they picked someone else.

HR folks screened the candidates, and did the phone screens, and then they did the first interview with the hiring manager. Interviews were clearly "by the book"--carefully scripted--and took several hours...but I didn't feel as though the script really pulled forth a solid sense of my skills and abilities. When the hiring manager would venture away from the script, the HR person was there to pull him back to his lines. Questions about previous experience resulted in conflicting feedback. Follow-up was not prompt. I chose to withdraw my candidacy and pursue other opportunities.

The hiring process is a bit cumbersome, but it's no better or worse than most places. They did streamline it recently, but not quite enough. The president participates in a lot of the interviews, which is unnecessarily paternalistic in general, unnerving to many candidates, and frustrating to most hiring managers. He doesn't trust anyone under him, which is reflected in the hiring process with his participation for positions below the VP level.

  • Could you describe your previous supervisor's strengths and weaknesses?
