First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GovX.
IT Administrator
I got contacted for a phone interview. Since I did well, I was invited for an in person interview a few days later. The in person interview went great and they said they would call me in a few days. A few days passed, and the hiring manager asked for my references. A few days after that, my colleagues told me they were contacted for references. I thought this was a great sign, why else would they call my references? Over a week went by and I never heard from them. I tried calling, leaving messages, and sending emails, but got no response. I think they should be professional enough to at least inform me. I tried for 3 weeks and still no response.
- What's the most crucial element to seek in a job?
Software Engineer
I got contacted on Hired and had a phone interview with the CTO to see if we were a potential match. After that, I went to their office in La Jolla for an on-site interview. When I arrived, I already felt like they didn't want me there. The engineer and CTO who greeted me seemed awkward and struggled with small talk. In the conference room, two other engineers interviewed me. They seemed like they were wasting their time before I even started talking. They asked pretty basic questions, mostly checking if I'd fit in their environment. After it was done, the CTO said they'd follow up. Two weeks passed with no word from GovX. I tried reaching out multiple times by email and phone, and even the recruiter couldn't get a response. Apparently, they haven't hired an engineer in two years and seemed to have forgotten how to interact with candidates.
- Can you explain the reasons for using OOP?
Merchandise Coordinator
I'm a veteran with a lot of experience in ecommerce, tactical gear, and the military community. I'm not sure how many veterans they hire, but it seems like a low number. The first time I interviewed, they took 2 months to reject me. The second time, it took them a month to reject me after 4 interviews. I don't know what they're looking for, but it doesn't seem to be a veteran. Thankfully, I had savings and other job offers from companies that are happy to hire veterans. I gave them a neutral review because they still claim to support military and first responder communities. My advice for veterans is to have multiple options, even if you think you're a perfect fit. For the company, don't assume or underestimate the capabilities of a veteran or first responder if you don't know their background. Also, try to avoid phrases like "Fake it till we make it" during interviews.
- Do you mind working at a desk?
Software QA Engineer
It was a pretty chill interview process. I talked to Adam Homze, the VP of Development first. Then I met with the CTO and CFO. The last interview was with some of the QA team members. Overall, it felt like about 30% knowledge-based, 25% experience-focused, and 45% about whether I'd fit in with the culture.
