First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Governor of Texas.
Intern
I found out about this internship through the school career fair, and some of my friends have interned here before. After about two weeks, they contacted me for a one-on-one interview. I met with the HR person, and the interview lasted around 20 minutes. It was quite straightforward, but I put in a lot of preparation.
- Describe a hypothetical situation and what you would do.
- Tell me about a challenging experience you faced and how you resolved it.
Fellow
The interview was really easy. I had one interview with HR and heard back in a few days. I was placed in the department I wanted. It was a painless process, I totally recommend it. Make sure to do your research and be ready to talk about other employers that might make you seem biased. Since it's a political job, some affiliations could cause bias. It was a really good experience overall.
- Can you discuss Governor Perry's policies?
- Will you disclose any criminal history?
- Be ready to discuss other employers that could potentially bias you.
Intern
I sent in an online application and then also an email application. After that, they emailed me to set up an in person interview in Austin. I got an acceptance email a couple weeks later, and then I went out there for orientation.
- Why the Governor's office?
- What are your career ambitions?
- How can this internship help your career goals?
