Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Government of Canada.
Human Resources Coordinator
About two weeks after I did the written exam, they emailed me to invite me for an interview. It was scheduled for about 10 days out, and they told me what skills they'd be testing in the invite. The interview itself was about 30 minutes long, and I talked with some professionals. Overall, it was a pretty good experience, though I didn't end up getting an offer.
- Can you describe a time you had to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously?
Human Resources Assistant
I was greeted in the lobby and taken to the floor by the hiring manager. She seemed uninterested and gave me a look like I was wasting her time, judging me before we even spoke. We then sat in her office and talked for about 50 minutes with another HR coordinator before the interview concluded. It was a really bad experience.
- What are your thoughts on filing?
HR Assistant
The interview process consisted of several questions about the job and my skills. They inquired about my language proficiencies and my organizational methods. The interviewers were friendly, and the questions were quite direct.
- Can you describe how you managed your time and tasks during the COVID-19 pandemic when your classes moved online?
