Overall it was pretty easy, but the final decision takes a little while to get approved. Since the role is for a mix of corporate-owned and local vet clinics, getting approval can be tricky with so many people involved in making the decision.

Behavioral Technical

The recruiter was nice, but very disorganized. After a lot of back and forth and 'Can you do an interview in 1 hour?' messages, I finally got an interview scheduled, the conversation was simple and friendly enough. The recruiter freely offered up that leadership can be seen as 'micromanagey' but they aren't 'they just care a lot'. Which should have been a red flag to start. In any case, I was told that I was moving on to a second interview with the COO/Cofounder, and it was scheduled for the following week. When I followed up the morning of the interview to confirm, I was told 1 hour before the interview that I would have to reschedule, and instead presented with a case study to do. I spent a good deal of time doing the case study, sent it along by the proposed deadline and then never heard a thing. After reaching out via email and LinkedIn to the recruiter, and having radio silence for a month, I decided to contact the COO/Cofounder via LinkedIn, who I was supposed to have the interview with. Within MINUTES, I got a form reply email from HR saying they were moving in another direction. I never heard anything from the COO/Cofounder. About an hour later, the recruiter did reach back out to my weeks old LinkedIn message to say that the email must have been 'lost in spam', which was not true. If they had just told me after my first interview or even after I sent the case study that they were moving in another direction, I would have understood and continued my job search elsewhere. But I was excited for the role, and was hopeful that the recruiter was just inept or swamped. But the radio silence of the COO just showed how systemic the issues are. Everything was incredibly disorganized, and ghosting people, especially after scheduling a second interview is not okay. A simple email would have been a fine ending to this.

It started with an initial zoom call screening with the head of marketing, then a zoom call with an investor, and finally a f2f meeting for a case study. The case study felt like a free consultation because they basically asked how I'd solve all their problems. Personally, I got a lot of red flags from the company. I would recommend clarifying what the compensation package looks like, who you'll be interfacing with, and ask a lot about their current offshore team.

The initial screening was really charming and they talked about doing some front desk work too. They mentioned a pay rate that was lower than average, but other than that, everything sounded great. But then it turned out they don't actually plan on hiring a dedicated front desk or client services person. There's no receptionist. They expect the support staff to take turns doing this job. If you're not willing to hire someone for reception and you don't value that role, they won't value or pay you well as a licensed tech either.
