First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Golden West College.
Adjunct Professor
I reached out directly to the Dean and Department Chair for an adjunct teaching position at the end of the spring semester. They promised to keep my information on file and they honored this claim by offering me an interview in July. I was invited for an in-person interview which lasted about 45 minutes. The department manager and administrative assistant were polite during the check in and waiting process. I was interviewed by the department chair and a senior faculty member. The questions were fair and in-depth. I really got a good understanding of the culture and values of the institution by the questions they asked. They also inquired about various things on my resume and work experience, which I was happy to elaborate on. It was a lot of fun discussing my ideas on effective teaching. In the end, I had a fairly good sense that they knew who I was and that I knew who they were. I could not wait to start working there. I received word in less than a week that I would be hired and was offered two classes a few days later to start teaching in the fall. Smooth and timely process overall.
- What are some strategies you have for teaching unmotivated and uninterested students?
Tutor
I had a very easy interview process with GWC. It was mostly about my attitudes and how I react with certain situations. They did not check my academic abilities as long as I get recommendation letters from my professors.
- What would you do if a student asked you to do their homework?
Instructional Lab Assistant
I had two panel interviews for this role. One was virtual and the other was in-person. Each interview lasted about 30-45 minutes. They had a list of questions they would ask, and I was given 10 minutes to get ready for each one. The interviewers would ask me a question, and I'd have around 2-3 minutes to answer.
- Can you describe a scenario related to lab safety?
Tutor
The interviewer was nice and friendly, and the interview went smoothly. They asked common questions and tried to make me feel comfortable.
- Tell me about your experience tutoring and working with students.
