First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Goethe-Institut.
Language Assistant
You sit at a long table, with four or five older men and one person taking notes across from you. They ask a lot of questions about your resume, job aspirations, etc. Sometimes they ask technical questions about DaF or describe situations and ask how you would handle them. Overall, nothing out of the ordinary.
- Is "brauchen" considered a modal verb?
- What is your approach when faced with political disagreements?
Contract Teacher
So, I had this panel interview. The Head of Language was pretty chill, but the Quality Management Officer wasn't so much. They mostly asked me skill-based questions. And then the usual stuff, like 'tell me about yourself'. In the end, they didn't move forward with me because, given I'm not a German national, it was unlikely Hong Kong would give me a visa.
- What's your approach to managing complaints from course participants?
- Could you introduce yourself?
Language and Exam Officer
I was offered an interview for the very next day. It was with the head of the organisation and the person I would be working with. The interview was quite relaxed and friendly; it felt like they were trying to get to know me and see if I would be a good fit for the team. After the interview, I was shown around the facilities.
- What advice would you give to someone keen on learning German?
- What's your motivation for applying for this position?
Project Coordinator
My interview went very smoothly and felt more like a chat than a formal Q&A. Near the end, the hiring manager shared the gross and net salary along with all the social benefits, which was unusual for the Egyptian recruitment system. While this left no room for negotiation, I wasn't planning to negotiate anyway and appreciated the transparency.
- Could you start by introducing yourself?
- Could you elaborate on your experience managing projects, especially those funded by the EU?
- What challenges might someone encounter as a Project Coordinator, and how would you address them?
