Technical Case

We started with a quick call. Then there was a technical interview with two interviewers, which involved a case study from your portfolio. For graduates, there was an additional casual interview. The technical interview lasted about an hour.

The process was alright. They got in touch quickly and set up an onsite interview. The job posting said they were in SF, but the onsite address turned out to be Santa Clara. The job description online was really general, making it sound like you'd work on various projects within the OEM company. However, during the interview, it became clear you'd only be working on a very specific component. Some parts of the process weren't very professional, like asking the interviewer to print their own NDA and bring it, when the company could have easily done that. My salary expectations, which I thought were average for the Bay Area, seemed higher than theirs based on the interview.

The HR recruiting team in China reached out to me for a Skype interview while I was in Europe. After that, I had to wait two months for a personal interview, and they kept changing the dates and locations. I ended up going to the HQ myself. The HR department gave me an English test and a presentation about the company. Then, a senior VP interviewed me with very basic questions, and that was the entire process. They sent the offer later than they said they would.

The interview process included a phone interview first, followed by an onsite interview. Because of the coronavirus, the onsite interview was converted to a video interview. During the phone interview, we discussed my resume and my background knowledge. In the video interview, I spoke with four individuals, including team members and the local VP. The entire process was completed in less than a month.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Tell me about your resume and discuss your Ph.D research. Also, share your knowledge and skill background, for instance, how familiar you are with Matlab or optics.
  • The local VP asked how you would describe yourself and what your hobbies are.
