Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GoDaddy.
UI/UX Designer
I first talked to my recruiter, who asked me about my interests and future goals. Then, after they saw my passion for UX, I interviewed with the design managers. They asked me for details on class projects that could be used in their day-to-day design tasks, and also about my background and why I picked design.
- Can you share your motivations for pursuing UX design?
- What experiences or events inspired your path into UX?
- Could you elaborate on your class projects and how they relate to our daily design work?
UX Designer
First I talked to the recruiter, then I had a skype call with the hiring manager. Finally, there was a 5-hour in-person interview. I think a 5-hour in person interview is a lot and doesn't really show that the company respects the candidate's time. Lunch doesn't really make up for it. I wasn't given a clear outline of the interview process beforehand and was surprised by a design exercise that wasn't mentioned. Also, when the candidate is responding, the interviewer should pay attention instead of looking uninterested or doing other things. Lastly, it's important to give feedback to candidates who aren't selected because not doing so is disrespectful of their efforts. I wouldn't recommend this company to people in my field.
- Describe your process for handling a design issue.
User Experience Designer
I went through a couple of interview rounds. When I got to speak with the design managers, they were really keen to understand my motivation for pursuing UX Design. After I had worked with them for two summers, I figured out that while they could teach the technical skills, they were looking for someone with a genuine passion for being a great designer.
- What led you to pursue a career in UX Design?
- Can you explain your motivation for wanting to become a UX Designer?
