First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GMEP Engineers.
Electrical Engineer
It was a straightforward chat where we went over my past projects from my resume and how they'd fit into this field. They also shared details about the company and the job. Super casual, no hard-hitting questions.
- Can you discuss your past experience?
Engineer
I interviewed there in 2020 during the height of COVID. A lot of red flags popped up, but they liked me and I needed a job due to layoffs. In the end, the owner wouldn't give me an offer, instead asking me to name my price, and he'd check if it was in budget. I asked for my worth and heard nothing. Desperate, I asked to negotiate and could come down. He again asked for a price, so I gave the lowest figure in his posted range, much less than I'm worth. He never replied, showing he wants to pay way below market and won't even stick to his own range. Other red flags: The owner was insecure about being Chinese, saying "People look at me as a Chinese man and think I don't know how to run a business. If you can run a business better than me, I'll give you my chair." This came out of nowhere. The office atmosphere was depressing; nobody looked happy.
- Can you tell me about your previous work experience?
Research Engineer
I had an interview with two engineers from GMEP. They asked about my past work and my SolidWorks skills for 3D drawing, specifically if I could draw from contour lines. They also asked about my familiarity with FEA/ANSYS. Then they gave me three questions to solve in 15 minutes. It went well and wasn't too hard.
- Can you explain how you've used SolidWorks to create a 3D model based solely on contour lines from a PDF?
- Tell me about your past work experience.
- How comfortable are you using SolidWorks for 3D modeling?
Mechanical Engineer
I applied online and then got an interview invitation via email. The interview was a panel format with three of their current employees. The questions covered both behavioral and technical topics. The interview lasted for about 40 minutes.
- How would you go about transforming a 2D drawing into a 3D representation?
