First, there's a quick phone or video chat with a recruiter or hiring manager. They want to check your background, talk about your resume, and see how you communicate. You might get some pre-screening questions about when you can start, what salary you're looking for, and if you're keen on the job.

The interview was a chill chat, followed by a technical test covering string searching and resume qualifications, and then an HR chat about salary.
- Can you tell me about your past work experience?
- How would you approach a key string search test?
- Walk me through how you qualify candidates using resumes.

A recruiter reached out about a contract role. I answered questions, sent my resume, and signed a Right to Represent form the same day. After that, the recruiter went silent and ignored my messages. They asked about my availability for a call but never scheduled it. I don't know what happened with the paperwork I signed. This whole experience was bad and shows a lack of care and professionalism from the company.
- What is your immigration status (GC or citizen)?
Instructional Designer
I applied for this role on LinkedIn and was contacted by an AI recruiter via text, which was surprising. The AI gave itself a female name and said it would call me for more details. I got an email about the call too, but the text didn't say when, so I had to ask. The AI responded quickly, saying it would call "shortly," which felt vague. When it called a minute later, I realized it was an AI, not a human. It asked generic questions about my past work really fast, and I couldn't ask for clarification or learn more about the role. It also asked for "Yes" or "No" answers, which made me suspicious about it being a scam. I was worried about my identity being stolen, so I hung up and didn't finish the screening. I later found out it was a real job, but this AI screening method makes candidates suspicious and isn't a natural way to discuss the role. It also seems to create more work for human recruiters who have to review the AI's recordings. It's weird because companies use AI to save time and money, but this process felt inefficient and counterproductive for everyone.
