Behavioral Case Presentation

The interview process was pretty simple. First, there was a screening call, then a first round with the hiring managers. This first interview was basically to get a general sense of your experience and what you know. After that, you had to do a case study and then present it in the final interview. The final interview had set questions, and they literally read them out loud while scoring your answers right then and there.

The whole interview process took about a month. There were 4 rounds in total: two technical interviews, one managerial interview, and a final HR round. The first technical interview focused on SQL and data warehouse concepts, and involved writing some SQL code. The second technical interview was simpler, with just logical questions. The managerial interview was mostly a formality.

Behavioral Technical

It was a 45-minute video interview on Google Hangouts. The two interviewers, a Director of Technical Communications and a Principal Technical Writer, were friendly and made me feel comfortable. The interview was pretty casual. I got asked typical interview questions like about my knowledge of the company, how I deal with conflict, my five-year plan, and salary expectations. Some questions felt a bit unexpected for a graduate position though, and I found them tricky. I guess I should have researched more beyond just what a technical writer does. My advice for others is to maybe look into personal experiences of technical writers and learn more about the job beyond the description.

I initially talked to a recruiter who gave me an overview of the role and company structure. She mentioned a temporary pay cut during coronavirus that had just been reversed. The first interview was a 60-minute virtual session with the department manager, followed by three other individuals who joined later. This part felt like an interrogation with many behavioral questions, and I noticed the new interviewers asked questions similar to the manager's without apparent coordination. The second interview was a 25-minute virtual meeting with the manager to discuss her concerns, which could have been handled via email. The third interview was a 45-minute virtual session with the manager and her boss, who seemed to challenge my answers by rephrasing questions. It's been a month since the last interview and I haven't heard back, and I'm feeling uneasy about the job.

  • Describe a time you had a conflict with a colleague.
  • Would you rather have a micromanager or a hands-off manager?
