So initially I had a phone screen, and then my first actual interview was with the hiring manager. After that, I think there was supposed to be a skills assessment, maybe like a writing test, and then a final interview with the rest of the team. Unfortunately, they stopped responding after the second interview.

Behavioral Case Technical

Global Health Corps reached out to me about a month after I applied online to say I was a semi-finalist for the job I applied for, and also for another job nearby that I hadn't applied to. The semi-finalist interview for both jobs was with a GHC alum. They asked standard questions like 'tell me about yourself,' 'about your work history/experiences,' and 'your motivation for applying to GHC.' There were also two case questions: one about scaling up a public health program, and one about what to do if you showed up and no one knew what to do with you or you had no supervisor. I gave a short answer for the second one and they asked for more details. Then I was offered a finalist interview, which I did in person with one person at the organization. Several other people from the study team joined by phone from different locations. They didn't use behavioral questions or case studies this time, mostly asking about my work history, specific research skills, experiences working in a team or as a leader, and expected challenges in the position.

  • If you were implementing the scale up of a public health program, what steps would you take to do so? What would your plan be?
  • What would you do if you showed up to your placement and your supervisor was out sick indefinitely and no one knew who you were?
  • Tell us about a time you disagreed with your boss and how you handled that.

Technical Behavioral

The process started with a staff member calling me for a writing prompt that I had an hour to finish and send back. Then, there was a phone interview with a senior staff member. The interviewer seemed rushed and stressed, and didn't take the time to get to know me. She immediately asked questions without introductions. Some questions felt accusatory and repetitive, as if she already decided I wasn't a fit without looking at my experience or intentions. It seemed like she was inexperienced or unprepared, and possibly multitasking, not fully listening to my answers. The call was only about 15 minutes, and I felt I had more to say and ask. I heard back within a week with a generic email saying the team enjoyed getting to know me, even though I only spoke to one person. Despite GHC's great work, the process left a negative impression.

Interviewed as a semi-finalist in March for a position that was later cancelled. Then interviewed as a finalist in April for a different position entirely -- which I had not originally applied for. I was told I would hear back about that position within a week; I didn't hear anything until mid-June, when I emailed GHC asking for a status update and found out that I was on some sort of waitlist. I finally got a rejection email at the end of June, over 2 months from when I was promised a final decision. Overall, I'm leaving with a poor impression of GHC because (a) really terrible communication/notification (b) I got the sense that they're internally pretty disorganized (i.e. cancelling a position in the middle of the application cycle?!) (c) they don't really seem to be following the procedure outlined on the website, which strikes me as sketchy (i.e. I was named a finalist for something I didn't originally apply for; I've heard anecdotally of them pulling people off the waitlist to fill positions that they did not interview for). Will not reapply.
