& Process

I was asked a bunch of questions in a standard interview format and then I had to do a small test on English grammar, like sentence structure and stuff. It was really easy.

The interview process was quite formal and structured. The last interview felt a bit more relaxed, but you could tell they were really paying attention to your answers, not just what you were saying.

The entire process spanned 6 weeks. I sent in my application and heard back about two weeks later. The first interview involved a job talk followed by questions from a panel, with a main focus on my teaching background. About two weeks after that, I had a follow-up interview with three administrators. This was a 45-minute discussion about my teaching approaches and experiences. Overall, it felt like a good experience.

First, I had to write a response for 30 minutes about a teaching challenge I faced and what I learned from it. Then, I had a 9-person panel interview where I answered questions about teaching and community college culture. After that, I did a 10-minute teaching demonstration. They also had me grade a sample student essay. You get a letter telling you if you advance. If you do, the second interview is with the school president, the department dean, and possibly someone else. I heard that stage is tough, and I never made it that far.
