First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gleacher & Company.
Analytical Service Manager
Eurofins introduced themselves: who was there, what their responsibilities were, their educations, etc. Then I introduced myself and described my thesis work. I was presented with the job description, including practical placements at other locations. They asked me about legal regulations and my ideas about the work situation. They also described the next steps after the interview, the second round, feedback, etc.
- Can you describe your career path?
- What made you decide to apply for this specific position?
Fermentation Engineer
The whole thing took about 2 months. The in-person interview was pretty messy and unclear. The managers I met didn't seem very engaged, and the technicians who would be my supervisors weren't really sure what the job was supposed to be.
- Can you tell me about a past challenge and how you handled it?
Investment Banking Analyst
It was an on-campus interview. I met with an analyst and a director. They were really late in the recruiting process. The director seemed really uninterested and the analyst was super arrogant and gave off a vibe that he thought he was really good (cocky). They asked standard questions like why Gleacher and why a small middle-market firm instead of a bulge bracket. The technicals were hard even though the analyst knew that the university didn't have a finance major.
- Can you explain how the three financial statements are affected when a company acquires an asset using 50% debt and 50% cash?
Analyst
After applying online, I had a phone interview. It lasted about 45-50 minutes and was split between two interviewers. They asked some fit questions, like 'why Gleacher', and some technical questions, such as 'if a firm raises more equity, how does the EV change given X equity, X debt, X cash'. They were generally friendly. When I asked about Gleacher's current strategy, the answer I got was a bit unclear.
- Could you go into detail about working capital?
