First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gilsanz Murray Steficek.
Engineer
So there was an English test and then some technical questions. The first part of the technical stuff is like undergrad level, but they said the last few questions are usually only for grad students, like Master's or PhD folks.
- The technical questionnaire included basic truss questions, and also unconventional statically determinate frames.
- In addition to being able to construct shear and bending moment diagrams for these structural configurations, a strong understanding of the underlying theory is essential.
Intern
I applied online and then got an email for an in-person interview. The interview had a conversation part and a written technical test. They wanted to see if I had minimum knowledge of engineering mechanics and statics. The interview was done by 2-3 structural engineers.
- Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
Software Engineer
The interview process involved difficult, non-technical, and functional questions, along with aptitude and reasoning assessments. There were also some coding questions. The coding tasks included implementing the Fibonacci series, and questions related to data structures like arrays and pointers in C. Additionally, they asked about Java 8 features and database concepts.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your previous work experience?
- Could you elaborate on your past experiences?
- Tell me about yourself and your past experience.
Structural Engineer
There was some confusion about the role itself, but the interview process was pretty straightforward. It started with general questions, then moved into a small quiz. This quiz included a few static problems and some easy calculations. I was a bit surprised by an English test at the end.
- Tell me about general engineering problems such as deflection and statics.
- Can you complete a small quiz?
- Solve a couple static problems.
