Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ghSMART.
Principal
Had some casual chats with folks at the company to get a referral. Then, an initial call with HR, followed by a more formal 1-hour interview with HR. The main part was a long 5-hour ghSMART interview.
- Could you share more about what interests you?
- What do you consider your key strengths to be?
- What are you passionate about?
Principal
The interview process was pretty standard, similar to what you'd expect from reading a book about consulting interviews. However, be warned, if you don't have experience from firms like Bain, BCG, or especially McKinsey on your resume, it might not be worth applying, as the company culture seems quite exclusive in that regard. They talk about teamwork, but a contact from business school who works there didn't even reply to my email before applying, even though I had helped her significantly in her previous role, which I think says something about the type of people they hire. On the bright side, they did inform me of the rejection over the phone, so they get some credit for that.
- Reading the book "Who" will give you a good understanding of the topics covered in the interview.
Principal
The interview process was thorough and comprehensive, much like the book 'Who'. It wasn't tricky, but very thought-provoking, serving as a complete review of your career. It lasted about 4 hours, but the time passed quickly. There were several phone interviews before and after the in-person one. During the process, you meet various people, which gives a good feel for the firm and its culture.
- Can you describe the positive aspects of each of your past roles?
- Can you describe the negative aspects of each of your past roles?
