I sent my resume and cover letter after I found the job on Careerbuilder. I got a call back from their HR manager the same day and was given a short interview on the phone. I set up a face to face interview the for the next day. I first met with the HR manager and was told the details of the position and asked a few generic questions about my technical skills and support service over the phone. I feel like their ideal canidate would have to have experience giving technical support over the phone, or anyone with call center experience. I then met with the managers of the tech support team. It was very casual. I was asked about my experience working on the phone and a few technical questions one being, "how would you find a worksstation's IP address." Overall it went well I thought.

An agency recruiter called me about a role, and I got the job specs via email. I initially declined because my skills weren't an exact match and the location was a 1.5-hour commute. The recruiter pushed, saying skills don't need to be precise, and the company would help with travel, offer flexible hours, and some remote work. I agreed but mentioned I was going on a trip and asked to schedule the interview after I got back in two weeks. The hiring manager asked me to interview on the first day of my holiday. I went, making a detour during my holiday. I was greeted and told they liked my deep electronics understanding and how I saw potential issues and extensions for a project. About a week later, the recruiter told me I was rejected for not wearing a suit, wearing jeans, a shirt, and a sweater, and because my hat was sticking out of my pocket. This was during freezing, snowy weather, and other team members and interviewers weren't wearing suits. They've contacted me 5 times in two years since, making me question their work environment.

I'm not sure if this interview is a scam, but if it's legit, here's what it was like: I had to answer about 12 short-answer questions in 45 minutes covering concepts and communication skills related to Trillian. There was also communication to reconfirm my background. After answering the questions, the HR team took about 20 minutes to decide the outcome.

Had an initial chat with the recruiter, it was brief and in English. They asked a couple of questions about my background and scholarship. The recruiter was really nice, and then there was a short test. I didn't get any feedback from the recruiter after that.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • A short multiple-choice test was given.
