I applied online and got an email with a link to schedule my interview, which showed available times and how many other candidates were interviewing. I chose to interview on the last day of the scheduled week (Monday-Thursday). When I arrived, I checked in with security, gave my name and ID, and was given the job description. I was interviewed by an HR staff member and the Supervisor. The Supervisor was friendly and welcoming, but the HR person seemed disinterested and had a poker face, making it hard to interview. The Supervisor was honest about the job, saying I'd be sitting at a computer all shift, moving containers in the shipyard, and working 12-hour shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM, which wasn't in the job description. I knew it wasn't a good fit because of the hours and my family. I wish GA Ports would list the schedule and hours upfront to save everyone time and filter out candidates with conflicts, as most employers do now. I wouldn't have applied if I'd known.

The hiring process was pretty straightforward for me. I had a decent chat with an HR person at a college career fair. They asked me to apply online. I sent my application, then followed up with an email and a call a couple of days later. That call led to an interview the next week. I was a bit nervous because I hadn't interviewed much before, but it went okay. The HR person and an operations manager interviewed me. They were nice, and the HR rep helped me out a bit. I sent a thank-you email afterward. I got a job offer that Friday. Looking back, my experience seemed faster than some others; some people waited a long time for interviews and offers. I guess I got lucky.
