I applied online and then they sent me an email to schedule an interview. The interview was scheduled for like 3 weeks later, which was a super long wait. It was the worst interview ever, they asked me stuff that had nothing to do with the job, like management stuff even though I wasn't applying for a management role. They also couldn't tell me anything about pay or benefits. They said it could take another 1-3 months to hear back from HR if they wanted to hire me, which I was not happy about because I didn't even know if it would pay me enough.

So I had a few interviews, including a phone interview and then an in-person interview with the 'hiring committee.' The in-person involved a teaching demo in front of the committee and whoever else showed up, plus a two-week new faculty orientation. This hiring committee is like 6 full-time professors, and they're super busy, so it definitely helps to know someone in the department because a lot of people apply.

The process is pretty straightforward. If you're genuinely interested in teaching and helping others learn, you'll have a relaxed and honest chat with the professors you'd be working with. It's more of a conversation than a Q&A. They aren't looking for specific right or wrong answers; they just want to gauge your competence and creativity in assisting fellow biology students.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • How would you approach scenarios where students are struggling to grasp the material?
  • Could you share your career aspirations and future goals?
  • What are your long-term objectives?
