& Process

It was a panel interview with a few simple questions about background and some scenario/comfortability questions. Nothing was hard or uncomfortable. Everyone was nice. Make sure to prepare yourself before the interview if you’re a person that gets nervous. Make eye contact and you’ll be great

First you fill out an application online and then fax or email it in. Next is the Physical Agility Test which includes push-ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5 mile run. The standards for this are pretty low, honestly. Then there's a drug test (urine). After that, you'll have an interview. You also need a physical exam at your own cost, which includes a thorough hearing and vision test. If you pass all that, you'll do 5 weeks of training away from home, but you can go home on weekends. This training includes a week of firearms training where you have to qualify with a revolver and a shotgun. The order of these steps can change depending on the location.

I first looked at the state website for job openings, found a correctional officer job at a prison I was interested in, and sent them my state application and resume. They got back to me with an interview date and a list of documents to bring: my birth certificate, social security card, driver's license, high school diploma, military DD214, copies of any certifications I have (like Certified Police Officer or Correctional Officer for GA), and any dispositions for previous criminal records if applicable.

The application was simpler than most law enforcement jobs. The whole hiring thing took about a month from the first chat to getting an offer. Getting all the HR paperwork from Phillips to P.O.S.T. was a nightmare, I had to basically show up every day for two weeks straight to get it done.
