First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts.
Social Media Specialist
Applied on HandShake on April 5th. Got a screening phone call on April 14th after a quick application review. During the call, they explained that the first step was a WonScore assessment to gauge potential. I completed the test, but my skills didn't match, and I received a rejection email on May 4th.
- Do you have prior experience with social media?
Staff Auditor
The interview starts with the HR manager asking basic questions to complete an application, followed by behavioral questions that align with the qualities mentioned in the job announcement. Next, you'll take an accounting quiz and a writing sample. The accounting quiz is straightforward, similar to introductory accounting. The writing sample requires a basic understanding of auditing and the ability to express it clearly. Finally, you'll interview with three department heads who will ask behavioral and traditional questions. They are looking for recent accounting graduates or individuals with no gaps in their education if they have a Master's degree, as this is an entry-level position. Expect 20-30 questions in total from HR and department heads. If you aren't selected, it might be due to cultural fit, which is fine as there are other opportunities out there.
- Can you share an instance where you had to manage multiple tasks with a deadline and decide what to do first?
- Describe a situation where you identified a mistake in data and what actions you took.
- What motivated you to pursue a career in accounting?
Management Analyst
I applied through Handshake and LinkedIn. The Staff Development Coordinator reached out within a week, asking me to do a two-hour assignment to show I could do the job. After I sent it back, another week went by before she told me the next step was meeting with the Department of Audits manager and an HR person. I had that interview, and they said I'd hear back within two weeks. It ended up taking a full month, and I had to email multiple times for an update. Finally, the manager of the Department of Audits let me know I didn't get the job, but only after I'd sent several emails asking for an update. The whole month-long wait to hear back says it all.
- Can you tell me about your weaknesses?
Staff Auditor
First they give you a call to see if you're interested. If they like you, they'll send an email to schedule your interview. You'll meet with an HR person and a leader from the department. They'll also give you a simple accounting quiz and ask you to write something. If you know accounting, it's pretty straightforward. They usually get back to you in about a week.
- Can you tell us about your resume and experience?
- Could you answer some behavioral and situational questions?
- What questions do you have about the role and the company?
