Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at George Mason University.
Student Worker
The interview was super chill. They went straight to asking about my experience, my future aspirations, and my involvement on campus. It felt like more of a vibe check to see if I'm lazy or something. You send in your application via Handshake, then they'll shoot you an email to set up a time to meet in person or on Zoom. They'll get back to you after that.
- Can you tell me about an activity or group you're a part of on campus?
Student Assistant
It was a face-to-face interview with a team leader. We started with introductions, talked about my past experiences and skills. Then, I was asked questions about how I'd deal with patron situations and if I knew the university policies.
- Describe how you would assist a patron seeking information about their transcripts and the transfer process.
Intern
A straightforward interview with the professor, discussing my personal projects and the research I'm interested in pursuing at the lab. It was a very relaxed conversation. I'd suggest preparing some questions and looking into the professor's previous work.
- What motivates you to join our team?
