First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at George Brown College.
Welcome Desk Agent
So, for the Welcome Desk job at George Brown College, it's pretty standard. You first apply online. HR looks at everything and picks out the best fits, especially if you're good with people and talking. Then, they might call you for a quick chat to see if you're still interested and if you seem like a good fit. If that goes well, you'll have a proper interview, either in person or online. This is where the hiring manager and maybe someone from HR will ask you about dealing with customers, solving problems, working with others, and what you do when things get hectic. Sometimes, they might give you a little test, like for typing or a customer service scenario. After that, they'll probably check your references. If you get through all that, they'll offer you the job.
- The interviewer spoke so unclearly I couldn't understand a word.
HR Coordinator
There were 2 rounds of online interviews. The first was a 4-panel interview that focused on behavior and situational questions. The second was a 2-panel interview, and it was less formal, mostly about your thoughts on the job.
- Can you introduce yourself and explain your interest in this role?
- Describe a situation where you handled a challenging interaction with a customer or colleague.
- Share an experience where you delivered constructive feedback at work.
User Services Representative
The interview process is pretty straightforward, kind of like a government job. The interviewer first gives you a quick rundown of what they'll be asking. Then, they dive into questions that are directly related to the job description. You can expect questions covering technical troubleshooting, your customer service style, and how you handle working with and supporting diverse individuals.
- Can you explain how you would make technical concepts understandable to someone without a technical background?
Director
I was contacted after the deadline for a pre-screening. The HR consultant was enthusiastic about my background and scheduled an interview for the next day. They mentioned a potential second interview two days later if the first went well. The first interview involved a mix of situational and behavioral questions, leaning towards "we do this, what do you think?" rather than strict STAR format. This was for a contract role where the hiring manager was temporarily covering for someone else. During the interview, it seemed they weren't impressed, with a comment like "we aren't looking to change things here." The HR person said they'd let me know about the next round the following day. After not hearing back, I emailed for feedback. Days passed without a response, and eventually, I received a rejection. I still haven't received any feedback.
- How does your experience relate to the requirements of this position?
