First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gentex.
Manufacturing Engineer Intern
Had a quick video chat with the hiring manager. It was a good and straightforward experience. They asked typical questions about my background, what I expect from the role, and any projects I've worked on. I got a good sense of the job and the company. I was offered the position, probably because my intern project aligned well with my previous experience.
- Can you tell me about your experience in this field?
Process Engineer
My first interview was pretty short. They actually got back to me way later than they said they would. So I drove down for a second interview, but then they just never contacted me. I followed up with them twice and each time they told me they'd let me know soon. I found out later, like a week before my second follow up, that I didn't get the job. And they never even told me.
- If you had to choose, would you rather be late but ready or on time but not prepared?
Production Supervisor
The interview process involved questions about engineering processes, specifications, OSHA standards, and safety practices. They also inquired about my views on workplace politics. A manager asked if I would be willing to pursue certifications for professional development, to which I agreed. The final question focused on my leadership abilities and strategies for building effective teams within a manufacturing setting.
- What kind of manufacturing experience do you have that would be valuable to Gentex?
- How does your leadership and team strategies work in a manufacturing environment?
Staff Scientist
It was an all-day onsite interview. I had to complete a personality profile beforehand. They really emphasized that employment is a two-way street and they want you to interview them just as much as they interview you.
- Can you describe a time you had to work with a difficult employee?
- How do you approach the interview process from the candidate's perspective?
- What are your expectations regarding the mutual nature of the employment relationship?
