I applied for a scientist role in systems bioengineering. The interview process started with a screening by the hiring manager, followed by several panel interviews over two days. I also gave a scientific presentation, which had good interaction. Most panels had at least two people. The interviewers had a weird mix of personalities; some were friendly, but others had awkward interactions, didn't answer my questions directly, and the conversation felt stilted. To top it all off, they ghosted me after all the interviews, which was unprofessional. I later found out through contacts in other departments that they hired an H1B candidate, which might explain the strange interactions as they had already decided on a hire.
