First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Generate:Biomedicines.
Senior Scientist
Started with an HR screen, then a 1-1 interview. The final stage was an on-site interview which included a 1-hour talk and a full day of 1-1s with an interview panel, featuring a technical interview. Everyone was great, and the standards were high but fair. It was great meeting everyone and talking about the company's exciting science.
- How would you approach creating a generative model for designing a target protein?
Manager
I applied online for the Sr. Manager role and heard back within a day. During the interview, the recruiter or HR actually demoted the position to Manager, and the salary offered was lower than expected, which would mean taking a pay cut. They also didn't leave any time for me to ask questions at the end. It felt like they have a rigid "years of experience" requirement and don't really consider your actual experience, which was a letdown.
- In what ways can you foster positive relationships among different teams without resorting to an authoritarian approach?
Associate Director Program Management
I applied for a Director Program Management position, but they contacted me to discuss an Associate Director role instead. The salary expectations and the tasks associated with the more junior role weren't what I was looking for. I was disappointed that my application was downleveled, which I've heard from others too. On a side note, all communication from this company came on weekends, which raised some red flags for me, aside from the interview itself.
- Can you tell me about why you've left each of your past positions?
Protein Engineer
The interview process involved an initial one-on-one with the hiring manager, followed by a 45-minute seminar presentation. After the seminar, there were a series of 30-minute one-on-one interviews with various individuals, including peer scientists and senior managers, as well as HR. The personnel were very smart and worked on an interesting platform, though there seemed to be a lack of clear direction or focus, with people working on many things simultaneously. The HR person was 15 minutes late for the scheduled meeting and didn't offer to reschedule due to time constraints. Following this, I was ghosted, which was a negative experience. I applied for other positions and even had a phone screen with a different manager but never heard back, being told they hired someone with more experience.
- How would you utilize immunogenicity platforms to identify molecules with potential risk?
- Which project or aspect of the platform would be your primary area of contribution?
- Tell me about your seminar.
