Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at General Motors (GM).
Financial Analyst
This was a really tough and involved interview process, but they ended up ghosting me after three rounds. One of those was a panel interview after I did an intensive case study. I had to chase them like three times to even get a rejection email, and it was super generic. Then I had to ask again to find out why. It was an all-male panel, which just felt like a boys' club, not much diversity there.
- Can you tell me more about the case study and defending it, as well as your past projects?
- Why do you think you weren't hired when you interned at a Big 4 firm?
Financial Analyst
The interview had two parts. They first gave me a call for an initial screening. After that, I had a video meeting with two interviewers. We talked about common behavioral things, like my background, how I've worked in teams, and my role within them (leader or just helping out). They also asked about a big challenge I ran into, a time I worked with someone, and a problem I fixed. The chat was mostly about how I work with others, solve issues, and lead.
- Can you tell me about a major challenge you've faced?
- Could you share an experience of working with someone?
- What's an example of a problem you solved?
Financial Analyst
So you have to do this Hirevue thing. Just so you know, the video you make for this counts for all the jobs you applied for, so don't mess it up on one or it could mess you up for others.
- Can you share an example of how you've handled different types of situations?
- Describe a scenario where you encountered a problem and how you managed to resolve it.
- Tell me about a time you had to deal with a challenging coworker.
