Program Manager
I had a phone interview with a recruiter to talk about general stuff and they set up my in-person interview with the hiring manager. The in-person day started with the recruiter talking about the company and benefits and then giving me my interview schedule. I then interviewed with the hiring manager and two people who report to them. The first interview felt like they were trying to sell the company to me. The second one was with the hiring manager, and I think they were checking my cultural fit and if I'd be a good fit for the team and their management style. The third interview was with someone who asked me "what would you do in this scenario" type questions. I got the job offer about a week after the in-person interviews.
- Describe a situation where you had a problem with a colleague or peer and how you resolved it.
- How would you approach a given scenario?
Program Manager
So I was initially told by HR that I wasn't qualified, but then I talked to a hiring manager who said I was a perfect fit, just like him. HR kept giving me a hard time the whole way, they are the worst I've dealt with at GA-ASI. The interview itself was with 5 different hiring managers, one after the other. They're all looking for someone with a very specific skill set to cover their own gaps. The questions focus on production experience and how you manage people. They also care a lot about your personality and if you can get along with others, especially avoiding ego issues with people like fighter pilots – that's a quick way to get rejected. Having high EQ and being able to sense what the interviewer is feeling is really important.
- How would you describe your management style?
Program Manager
I had a quick phone chat, and then they invited me for an in-person interview. I flew in from the East Coast. It started with an HR chat for 30 mins, then the hiring manager for 30 mins. After that, I met with two peer PMs, each for 30 mins. The day wrapped up with the director during lunch in the cafeteria. The vibe was pretty chill and low-key, no hard questions.
- Can you tell me about your previous experience?
