First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Genedata.
Software Engineer
It began with a brief phone chat with HR, where they asked about my interest in science, given the company's domain. I explained my eagerness to refresh university knowledge and fill any gaps. Next, I had an hour-long call with a software engineer and a manager. We covered coding a simple algorithm with a test, some general questions (like about databases), and reviewed my CV. The third stage was an on-site interview in Munich, which took most of the day. I'd received a plan beforehand, which included an introduction where I presented myself using slides I'd prepared. This was followed by a coding session involving implementing and testing server methods for concurrent clients. Then, a scientific advisor assessed my remaining university-level math skills. The rest of the day was spent getting to know the team and learning about their work through individual and paired chats. Lunch with the team was also a nice, relaxed part of the day. The office atmosphere and the people were great, reminding me of university labs but with more significant, real-world challenges. Despite feeling I didn't perform my best on the math tasks, I received an offer shortly after, which I accepted. Post-offer, the HR team guided me through the document preparation, German visa application, and my family's transition, with help from future colleagues in Munich for practical matters like finding housing.
- Can you tell us about your interest in science?
- A task involving basic mathematical probability and statistics.
Software Engineer
I went through a 2-week interview process in Munich. It had 3 rounds: first an HR chat, then an online technical interview, and finally an on-site session mixing technical and non-technical parts. It all felt really friendly, and the interviewers were super polite and open-minded, very clear about how the company operates. This gave me great insights into what the job would be like. I needed to showcase my technical skills, presentation abilities, and soft skills. The technical parts were direct, checking core concepts. We discussed various things with the team for soft skills. The HR support throughout was also excellent.
- Can you discuss CS fundamentals?
- Tell me about Java concurrency.
- What are your thoughts on design patterns?
Software Developer
You'll get a link to a project during the interview. You have to check it out, build it, and then add new methods. While you're doing that, you'll also explain your code.
- How would you implement new methods?
- What issues can you find with the current implementation?
- Can you fix these errors?
