The interview team was confused and advertised a role that they didn't really need. The interview process was quick, with two interviews: one in person and one on Teams.

Right off the bat, I was confused that guests needed to be buzzed in by the receptionist. After waiting over 15 minutes, the first part of the interview was with Gemline's Director of HR. She was polite but very blunt. Instead of walking with me and chatting on the way to the conference room, she practically ran ahead, like 8 steps in front. She also seemed way too focused on the pre-interview paperwork, and there's a lot of it. You have to fill out this old-school application even though you're just repeating your resume, and what they call an NDA. But if you read it, it's not an NDA, it's a release form allowing them to do a full background check, including credit and anything else they feel is relevant. Plus, the application asks for your social security number and then says they'll try to be 'reasonably' careful with your info. This is a company that makes promotional stuff, not a spy agency, so I don't get why they act like national security is involved. I'm just not comfortable sharing that kind of personal info, and I bet most people aren't either. The HR Director talked a lot about how great the company is to its employees, but when we went over the benefits, most of it was pretty minor stuff – like, seriously, is a water filter a real benefit? They barely touched on health insurance and PTO, which doesn't surprise me. Their health insurance is pretty weak, and with only 9 holidays, 10 vacation days, and 5 sick days, that's like the bare minimum for PTO these days. I think I got more PTO at my college job. So, the first half of the interview really left a bad taste in my mouth. I met other people in the second half who were much nicer and knew more about the job, but by then, I was pretty sure I couldn't see myself working there.

The interview took at least 3.5 hours. First, I met with a supervisor, then a manager, and then HR. I also got to observe a customer service team member working. They asked really good questions that were pretty similar.

It was a pretty typical interview process. I talked to two people and got a quick look around the place. They seem like a company that cares about its people and wants to make the workplace better.
