First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gemalto.
Software Engineer
First, I had a phone interview with HR where they asked basic questions about why I'm looking to change jobs and my salary expectations. After that, HR called back to set up the in-person interview and sent over a programming task. The task was to write a small program to find pairs of two integers in an unsorted array that sum up to a given S. Then, I had the face-to-face interview which included a 30-minute paper test with 3 programming questions and 2 database questions. The programming questions were: check given string is Palindrome, factorial of 2, and grey white triangle.
- HR asked some basic questions.
- The HR person inquired about my motivation for seeking a new role and my salary expectations.
- I was asked to code a solution for finding pairs of integers in an array that sum to a specific value.

I applied through college and interviewed at Gemalto in Noida in March 2017. The first round was a pen and paper test with 19 aptitude and 31 technical objective questions, which was easy. Out of 300+ applicants, only 50 were shortlisted for the second round, which was a technical interview on the same day. They asked me to 'tell me about yourself', gave me 2-3 coding questions, one puzzle, and asked me to write code for it. They also asked about Unix commands, DBMS queries, and HTML tags. Then they asked which field I was comfortable with and pushed me towards testing. I was asked if I was comfortable with testing. I qualified for this interview, and out of the 50, only 30 were shortlisted. The third round was another technical interview in Gemalto Noida, where they asked Java-related questions. After that, they conducted another technical interview, stating it was with a different department, testing. They asked a puzzle, a substring program, and DBMS questions. After this technical interview, they said I was not selected. My technical interviews went well, but I'm not sure what they were looking for.
- Can you check if a string is a palindrome?

I got an email with a programming challenge to complete and send back within a specific time frame. I wasn't really sure what to expect before getting the challenge. They didn't specify any programming languages, so I got to pick one myself. I ended up submitting a solution that was clean, ran fast, worked correctly, and followed SOLID principles, all within the given time. Unfortunately, I was rejected. I asked for feedback but didn't hear back.
- Create a fast program to read input from the console and output results, making sure to identify any invalid inputs.
