HR was super patient. The whole thing went smoothly and fast. There were 4 interview rounds. First was ML stuff plus my resume. Second was python, SQL, and an easy algorithm. Third was about real machine learning models for a case study. Last one was with a manager, covering my resume and one ML model.

Behavioral Technical Coding

I applied online and HR from Geico contacted me within a day or two. They set up a 30-minute call with a data scientist, which went well. The data scientist asked about my data science/analytics background. The next step they said would be a take-home test where I'd build a hypothetical prediction model. I had 4 days to complete it and submitted my code and results. Unfortunately, things got complicated after that. When I followed up a week later, HR confirmed they got my submission but didn't say if they were still reviewing it or if I wasn't moving forward. I expected a clearer response from a big company like Geico. About a month later, Geico reached out about continuing, but I had already accepted another data scientist role.

Technical Coding

The onsite technical screen included SQL and Python coding questions. It was administered in a double-spaced Google Doc, which was a very inconvenient format. The interviewer seemed unsure about the problems themselves, causing confusion. GEICO, much like other finance or insurance companies, seems to have underdeveloped interview processes for data science roles. This aligns with their compensation, which is in the bottom quartile, suggesting they attract bottom-quartile talent.
