Gecko Robotics Software Engineer Interview Questions
& Process

So first I had a recruiter call, we talked about my past projects and if I was interested in Gecko. Then I had a technical phone interview, but it got rescheduled because the interviewer couldn't get his mic to work. We tried again 2 days later, but then they emailed me saying they were at headcount and I didn't get the offer. They were really unprofessional.

It started with an online assessment with Medium difficulty questions, then a behavioral interview with typical questions. After that, there was a pair programming session focused on data processing using non-Leetcode style problems. The process concluded with a final panel interview in the office, which covered system design, more data processing tasks, and behavioral questions. The whole thing was pretty smooth, and the recruiter was very nice and kept in touch well.

The whole thing took about two months. It started with a Hackerrank, then a phone screening, and finished with an on-site interview. Gecko does say they'll reimburse you for travel/lodging, but I'd say don't do it. I've heard they don't pay people back, and they did end up paying for me out of pocket when I asked. The engineers I talked to were pretty robotic, which maybe fits? The first interview was a coding question right then and there, like a typical Hackerrank problem. Then came a behavioral interview where we talked about my resume. The third one was a mix of behavioral stuff and a facility tour. Overall, it was okay. The interviewers were really monotone and didn't give much feedback. I was actually a bit worried if the guy in the coding interview was even watching what I was doing. I felt like I did great on the interview, but I guess I might have shown too much ambition, which they don't seem to like. Since the interview, I've heard absolutely nothing, and it's been almost a month. Honestly, I'd really recommend not even interviewing here, just save yourself the time. Something's really sketchy about how they hire, and other people seem to think so too. It seems like they don't actually have open spots but keep interviewing people (usually on your dime) hoping to find their perfect "code monkey." Bottom line, find a better company that treats you right; you deserve it.
