First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at GC Micro.
Sales Account Manager
I interviewed in person at their Petaluma office. I met with two managers and then a sales rep, one after the other, all in the same visit. I felt like I really connected with both managers. However, the vibe changed when I met the sales rep. He seemed to be scrutinizing my resume, looking for reasons why my experience wouldn't fit the sales role I was applying for (which is the same as his). For context, GC Micro is a company that integrates hardware and software and provides services, and they subcontract for companies like Boeing. So, I asked the sales rep about his background and what he did before GC Micro. After a pause, he said he worked at a golf shop. He appeared embarrassed to share this, especially after he had just questioned my past experience so intensely. The interview concluded awkwardly after that.
- Can you summarize your responsibilities for each past position?
- What skills did you acquire from each of your previous jobs?
- How do your skills apply to the Sales Account Manager role?
Account Manager
The interview process felt really uncomfortable and frankly, quite off-putting. The people I met seemed really drained, lacked enthusiasm, and moved very slowly. Despite this, they did extend an offer. However, I had already accepted another position. The overall vibe of the company just felt wrong, and the employees appeared genuinely unhappy. The office itself also seemed quite cheap.
- What are your weaknesses?
Account Manager
The interview process was really professional. I knew pretty quickly that I wanted to work there. When I got there, the lobby had two glass cases filled with awards, and the owner was pictured with presidents. The job details were super clear, and they answered all my questions, so there were no surprises.
- What's something you think I'll know about you in a year that I don't know today?
