GATX Interview Questions
& Process

I applied through Indeed and it took over two months to hear back. The HR Manager was really nice and after asking some initial questions and explaining what GATX does, she set up an interview. I went in feeling super nervous and interviewed with the shift manager and production supervisor. They were both really cool guys and asked me a bunch of questions about my background and experience. The interview lasted about 20 minutes. A few days later, HR called and said they wanted to move forward. They did an employment check, criminal background check, and verified my HS Diploma, which took about a week. Then I got the job offer, pending a medical evaluation and a BTE Physical Abilities Test. I passed the medical eval and am now waiting on the BTE results to get an official start date.

It was a long day, 6 hours with 6 people. They had it well planned out. I have a lot of experience as an EA, but they seemed to be looking for the exact skills of the person I would be replacing. That person had worked there for 30 years and didn't seem to have any 'current' skills. They were really focused on Business Analysis skills, which I think is only a part of what an EA does. The feedback they gave me wasn't very detailed, which is the least they could do after I took a whole day off.

Be ready for the same questions again and again. The interviewer asked me the same questions so many times it was so dreadful I felt like a robot. They don’t get back to you until weeks later when they tell you they would get back to you the same week you interview. Don’t bother asking what can you improve as an interviewee because they will never respond to you after a TA member said if you need any help reach out to them. Very unprofessional and seems like a very bland office.

I had two initial rounds before an in-person interview, which I felt went really well. A week later, the recruiter said the team was interested but had one more candidate to interview. Two weeks after that, after I followed up again, I've been ghosted. It was a terrible process to be ghosted after being told the team was very interested, especially after being unemployed for so long and having developed a professional relationship after the in-person meeting.
