First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gather.
Sales Operations Analyst
First, I had to do two online assessments, one for cognitive skills and another for personality. After passing those, I had a quick phone call with the recruiter. She initially wasn't sure if I'd move forward since I lacked Salesforce experience, but after a few days, they decided to proceed. I was then invited to the office for a 3.5-hour meeting where I met with several people: the SVP of Finance, the Marketing Operations Manager, the Revenue Operations Manager, the VP of Marketing, and one of the co-founders. Each of them asked different behavioral and experience-based questions, tailored to how the role would interact with them. I also talked with the SVP of Finance about a basic Excel test I had to prepare beforehand. The next week, the recruiter called me back for a meeting with the new SVP of Sales. He asked similar questions about my background and interest, but I couldn't quite tell his level of interest, and it seemed like he was looking for something very specific. A week later, I was informed that because the new SVP of Sales had just come on board, they were re-evaluating the role's scope and wouldn't be offering me the position. It was disappointing, especially since the job was reposted online with the same description the same day.
- What makes you want to work at Gather or in a start-up?
- How would you go about identifying areas for improvement within our sales pipeline?
- Can you discuss your experience with Salesforce?
Sales Development Representative
First, you do a 15 minute cognitive assessment, then one phone interview, then one in-person interview. For the in-person, you take the same 15 minute cognitive assessment again at the office, then get a tour. After that, you have back-to-back interviews with two regional sales managers and the VP of Sales. You also do a mock cold call with one of the sales managers. The recruiter was helpful, but the interviewers were disengaged and rushed. The recruiter initially said it was the final interview, but then mentioned there would be one more with the VP and CEO. The recruiter didn't follow up as promised. You need to bring high energy.
- Tell me about a goal you set and achieved. Also, tell me about a goal you didn't achieve.
- What are three words your former manager would use to describe you? What are three words your friends would use?
- How do you think you performed on the mock cold call, and what could you have done to improve?
Director of Client Operations
Applied online in December, received an email in January to take a cognitive test after a month. Prepared and took the test, performed well. The next business day, the recruiter contacted me for a 30-minute call, which happened the same day. The recruiter gave positive feedback but mentioned needing to check with the COO. A week later, I got a cold email stating they didn't see a fit and moved on. It's confusing because they proceeded with the test and recruiter call if my resume wasn't a fit initially. The fit seemed fine a week ago after a good test and recruiter conversation. Looking at their team page, 3 out of 74 people look different, so I'm part of the 4% who might not fit in with the similar-looking 96%.
- Can you describe an instance where you managed a smaller team handling multiple priorities?
Software Engineer
So the interview process involved a soft skills interview where we talked about who you are and what drives you, how you work with others, your personality, and how you think. Then there was a hard skills interview, which was more about digging into your experience and work, seeing how you approach problems and where your passion lies. Lastly, there was a technical evaluation, which was a coding challenge where I had to build out a feature on a sample application.
- Tell me about a project you've built that you are proud of.
