First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gateway Specialized Marketing.
Sales and Marketing Specialist
It was better than expected to be honest. I had been applying for several entry level marketing positions in the area. With this company they were very straight forward about what they do and who they work with in the actual interview. There is a base pay and not strictly commission with benefits. I spoke with the Market Manager himself along with an Account Manager with another person who was in training. I look forward to where this goes.
- What attracted you to our company?
Marketing Associate
I walked into a room with about 5 other people, was handed a clipboard, and told to fill out my information which asked for 3 references and my past work experience, which made me wonder why I sent my resume. I sat next to a lady who said she'd been waiting 30 minutes. Two more girls came in after I'd been waiting about 15 minutes. While waiting, we heard cheering from the other room, which seemed to be a motivational meeting. After about 40 minutes, people started leaving the other room and one guy loudly exclaimed, 'I can’t believe I got promoted already! I’ve only been here 2 months!'. He then told us, 'You can do great things here!'. While I appreciated his enthusiasm, it felt staged. They had us wait 40 minutes next to the room where they hold their 'morning motivational' meetings. It felt like they were trying too hard to seem like a fun place to work. After waiting for almost an hour, I left. This seems like a phony marketing company focused on selling cell phone service at a booth in WalMart. If that's what you're looking for, great. If you want a REAL marketing agency, don't waste your time.
- What's the soonest you can start working?
Account Executive
The entire process was unprofessional. I had to wait in the waiting room for 40 minutes before I got an interview and they kept claiming that they had some big "incident" earlier that made them run behind schedule (in fact I believe I was one of the girls in the waiting room with the person that left the previous review.) The job I applied for did not mention that I would have to sales even though that is what they wanted me to do. A man came into the waiting room and repeatedly promised "great things" as well offering some of us to come back to his hotel room later. Everything seemed bizarre and phony.
- What kind of leadership style do you have?
Inside Sales Representative
The interview process was really quick and easy. The person interviewing me was great and we mostly just chatted. Even though I didn't end up taking the job, the company seemed really solid and like a good bunch of people. I'd totally recommend applying if you're looking to get into sales.
- What do you find to be the hardest part about sales?
- Do you see yourself as a good fit for this position?
