First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gaston County.
Tax GIS Specialist
I was interviewed by a panel of 7 professionals, each an expert in their field. It was tough to figure out what to focus my preparation on. I concentrated on GIS technology, but the questions were more about Tax processes. I wish I had studied the tax system questions more.
- Can you list some components found within a Tax record?
EMT
First, I went to the office and took a 12-minute Wonderlic test. About a week and a half later, they called to schedule an interview. The interview itself was pretty standard. Three people interviewed me and mostly asked behavioral questions. After the interview, I had to take a FISAP test. They said they'd let me know in a few days, but I never heard back.
- In stressful situations, how do you manage?
- Can you detail your relevant education and experience?
- What unique contributions will you make to this organization?
Social Worker
It took about a month from the initial contact to get this interview. The interview itself was quite long, lasting around 3 hours, and it had several parts, including a mock case summary exercise. It was a bit off-putting that one interviewer seemed disengaged, constantly on his phone, and had to be prompted several times when it was his turn to ask a question.
- Can you share details about your experience and relevant skills?
- Do you have any questions for the interview panel?
- What are your questions regarding the mock case summary provided?
Human Resources
The interview process involved standard interview questions, covering both behavioral and some technical aspects. The second round included a presentation. Candidates were expected to discuss their previous work experience and adapt their resume and career narrative to align with the specific job description.
- Describe a mistake you made and how you handled it.
- Can you tell me about a time you made an error and how you dealt with it?
