First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gartner.
Sales Development Representative
The interview screening is 3 parts. First is a phone call with a recruiter. Second is an interview with the recruiter. Third is an interview with sales managers or other managers. They heavily rely on the STAR method. They offer great advice and suggestions for change throughout the entire process. You will leave the process with more knowledge of your professional skills than when you arrived, if you do not get an offer. There is a role play sales call. No matter what… Close. The. Call.
- Can you share an instance where you had to persuade someone to change their viewpoint?
- Simulate a sales call and successfully close the deal.
Sales Development Representative
I had a few rounds of interviews. First, a call with a recruiter where we talked about my background, why I want to do sales, and they had me go through my resume. They then sent an email with info to prep for the next interview. Second, I had a Teams meeting with another recruiter. This one focused on STAAR behavioral questions, why sales, my knowledge of Gartner, and why I'm a good fit. They also gave more details about the company, the role, and what's next. Finally, I had a Teams meeting, I think with the hiring manager, which involved a cold call roleplay.
- Can you explain Gartner definitions, the sales cycle, and what makes Gartner unique compared to others?
- Can you tell me about your background, why you are interested in sales, and walk me through your resume?
- Could you share your knowledge of Gartner and explain why you are a good fit for this position?
Sales Development Representative
This was a multi-round interview process. The first step was a simple phone call with a recruiter to get a basic understanding of your background. Then, there was a Teams interview with a talent acquisition specialist. The day before, the recruiter gave me a prep call, offering guidance and resources. However, the prep call didn't align with the actual interview questions, which was frustrating. They expect answers using the STAR method and very specific, almost scripted responses based on their provided materials. The interviewer probed deeply into specific areas, which were not covered in the prep call. It felt like they wanted highly corporate answers, so it might not be a good fit if that's not your style. Overall, the process was disappointing because the preparation focus didn't match the actual interview questions.
- What makes you want to get into Sales, and specifically why Gartner?
- What drives you?
- Can you tell me about your past experiences?
