First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gartner.
Business Development Manager
First call with recruiting, then a Traits round, then LSA round, and finally a Panel round. All rounds are at least an hour. They offer a prep call before each to ensure you answer according to their guidelines, essentially making you disregard your actual experience. Interviewers are quite harsh. The LSA interviewer was new and trained to scrutinize everything, which I understand they do to see how you handle discomfort, but they really lacked empathy. Honestly, if you want to preserve your mental well-being and secure a good career role, I'd advise against interviewing with Gartner (Sales), as it can negatively impact your mental health.
- Why did you leave your previous position?
- What is your motivation for applying to Gartner?
- Please participate in a role-playing exercise.
Business Development Associate
The interview process was quite extensive, involving an initial screening call with the recruiter (30 mins), followed by a traits call with the recruiter (1 hour). The final stage was a panel conversation with 2-3 team members, which included a role-play (90 mins). Significant preparation was needed for each stage. Although they stated no technical understanding of the team's area was expected, my experience from two panel interviews suggests otherwise. It's challenging to prepare for the panels while also managing a full-time job. There's an overwhelming amount of online information to sift through for interview preparation.
- Can you share an example of a time when...?
- Walk me through your sales process.
Business Development Associate
I was contacted by an early career coordinator on LinkedIn for a Business Development Associate role. They reached out multiple times before I replied. I was sent a link to schedule a 20-30 minute introductory call with basic questions about my background. Before the first actual interview round, there was a prep call. The first round was with an early career recruiter and consisted of basic questions about my background, my interest in sales, and why I was interested in Gartner. Another prep call happened before the second round, where I was given the questions that would be asked, information on the format, and guidance on what to prepare. This was followed by a peer interview with a current BDA. The final round involved interviews with both a BD manager and an AM manager. This stage included standard interview questions, sales-specific questions, and a mock sales call with an executive. An offer was extended via phone call less than three hours after the final interview.
- Can you explain your interest in Gartner?
- What drives your interest in a sales career?
- Describe an instance where you took the lead of a team.
