First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Gap.
Product Manager
It was a pretty easy and simple interview. Everyone was on a panel and asked their questions. Most of the questions were situational and hypothetical. It started with 'tell me about yourself' and went on for about 30 minutes.
- Tell me about yourself.
- How would you collaborate with the distinction team?
- What actions would you take if the team built something different than what you described?

So I had a few phone screens first, then they brought me on-site for what felt like a marathon. I had 5 interviews back-to-back, with 2 people in each, so I met more than 10 people total. After all that, as the last group was walking me out, the recruiter called saying I had one more interview. Since I'd already left, they set up a phone chat with the hiring manager's boss. It seemed to go well, but then radio silence for 3 weeks. I sent emails every week, no reply. Finally, after my fourth email, about a month post-interview, the recruiter told me they'd changed the job description and no longer needed a PM. Weird, right?
- Can you describe your basic tech stack?
- What are your typical roles and responsibilities?
- Describe a situation you encountered and how you managed it.
Product Manager
I met with six different people during the day. The interview questions were very straight forward with a lot of time spent on people telling me about the job, what they did and asking "tell me about yourself." Not a lot of meat in the interviews. I was a former employee and actually found that to be a disadvantage because people don't realize how much has changed since you left and therefore, tend to under explain things. They also tend to be more chatty and I didn't feel like I got a chance to show my accomplishments like I do in other interviews.
- How do you think Gap's new international initiative will impact your job?
